What others have said
One of the best nights of my life occurred a few years back on Samhian Eve at the Aggie Theater, here in Ft. Collins. CC performed and that moment is for ever etched into my gray-matter. My wife and I are in a band (more precisely, she is in several). I play trumpet(very little, still learning), theremin but mostly tambourine. She plays anything she wants, but sticks to bass mostly. www.12cents.com This year, at Burning Man, I saw a troop of performers I did not get a chance to talk w/. They called themselves The Hobgoblins (I might be mistaken since it is Burning Man after all). They had the vaudevillian face makeup and the rather garish yet tatty clothes of traveling performers. Lead vocalists played (male) accordion and (female) wash tub bass. Does anyone know of this band and where I might find them in this electronic medium? One last comment, I am an entomologist/zoologist thanks to years of academia and am now doing volunteer work at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science on arachnids. A. Hello, I really enjoy the music. It makes me happy in a strange way, I guess . The art in a sense of everything is just so awesome. It's really something I can get into. That's even what my friend said *Laughing* . I hope that I get to enjoy a show of yours sometime. That would be great. Have a lovely day (Doesn't that sound stingy?) Thanks n_n -Lauren the Bunny My face was actually sore from smiling so long while attending one of your shows. packsacks full of imagination and wonderment for us all. Thank you! Any chance of a Halloween party this year? Really great show at Theater for the New City. New York City seems an emptier place without you! Hurry back! When are you coming back to San Francisco?? Saw your show for the first time last summer. Enjoyed it so much I convinced 19 of our friends & neighbors to see the show. They are still thanking me! Hope you are doing well in NYC & getting the standing ovations you deserve.Like I tell everyone: "Circus Contraption--it's more fun than a high colonic!!" Have a safe trip home. See you at the moisture festival?? Bob Saw the show last night in nyc, and you looked mahvelous. absolutely mahvelous. This site doesn't do you justice though - put up more pics like the CD design, and a tour page, so we can spread the world on your surreal and wonderful greatness!

ny Friday, August 26, 2005 at 03:19:31 (PDT) You all had better return from New York. They can only borrow you, not have. I was wondering if your new CD is going to be released before you leave? I am really looking forward to hearing it. You guys have created such wonderful magic in a world that gets more and more not very fun. Thank-you from the bottom of my heart. Keep creating!! This was my second year. I can't wait until next season. The Gala was Great. The most fun I've had with my pants on. Good luck in NY. Your music rules! Last night's gala was fantastic! I've seen the show several times now, and am amazed at the new improvements this year compared to last year's venue. I've sent a total of 22 asses to your show via word of mouth - no ass has left unchanged. Good luck in NY, and congrats on the amazing new CD. I look forward to your next homebrew event!

maryland Friday, July 29, 2005 at 20:52:57 (PDT) I just saw your show and I have to say it's one of the most unique shows I've ever seen. I plan on seeing it again and I will tell my friends in NYC to go see you guys. I miss doind shows myself and I your show is really up my ally. I think I even enjoyed it more than cirque du soleil. Thanks Just saw dime museum tonight and holy crap it was awesome! I think everything about the show was perfect. I thought the music was woven perfectly between, and during the acts, and the theatre could not be more cozy for what you guys are doing in there. I will be catching it a few more times before it is done with, and will be bringing as many people as I can. Thanks for the great time! Cheers

That's means we're frantically rehearsing, sawing, building, painting, and sweating. But trust me when I say this is the best show yet. Please come see us, and drop us a line afterwards to tell us what you thought!

in the ether Wednesday, May 18, 2005 at 18:32:52 (PDT) new years was great! I had a blast, and so did the friends that I brought to witness the circus first hand. We are looking forward to the show over at the tractor! thanks! Hey hey hey, I love the "Innanimate animal-rights" statement! Bootyland's site led to yours and I love it. We do giant puppets and radical activism stuff (latest: "Baby Bloc: For activists in a family way.") I'm sperm-donor dad of twins with my lesbian best friend. Now we have less time for politics, but we're working on a book about activist families. (And I don't know when we'll be able to stay out late to see you perform,) At our last puppet gathering in Georgia we realized that all puppeteers must go metric--in order to overthrow "the imperial measurment system." (All tools and materials need to be converted. Where do we salvage metric lumber? Maybe if we move to Canada.) Anyways, I thought that complimented your inanimate objects' bill of rights. I'd be pleased and amused to spread that document among puppeteers when it's written. peace and odd sentimental impressions, bruce (I want my circus name to be Ribo Flavin.) check out this performers new forum at www.everythingshiny.com

Wednesday, December 03, 2003 at 17:17:26 (PST) I was so excited to see Circus Contraption at the Bug TH, in Denver in 2002. All of you were wonderful. I was looking forward to seeing CC again this Halloween, but there you were in Seattle. When will you be coming back to the Boulder/Denver area? Pleaseeeeeee come back soon! Hey there. I saw you guys a couple summers ago. Once at the Oregon Country Fair, and then again at the Henry Miller Book Store in Big Sur...which was a fantastic show, I have to say. In fact,it's my favorite live performance I've ever seen. After, we all hung out, drank beers and played music until I passed out on the stage, dreaming dreams of running away with the circus. Special thanks to David for letting Jake and I into the show for free, seeing as we were broke. YOu guys are a shining deed in a dreary world. David Dear, We need Kids & Adult Carnival for 30 days in Dubai.UAE We are ( Wahid Ramadan Events Organizers ) an entertainment company in Dubai .UAE. specialized in festivals and celebrations in all Arabic countries and the gulf countries.. Use your imagination those dark clowns of the past are there just listen. I caught your show at the Jem Studio on Saturday, Oct. 11th. I enjoyed it so much I wrote the following review for the Seattle Sinner (www.seattlesinner.com for more info.), unfortunately I didn't bring my camera, so I didn't get any photos to go with it. I was hoping I could trouble you for a publicity photo to put with it, if it's not too much trouble. Thank you for your help Ben Come one come all, don?t be shy, step right up and witness the spectacle that is Circus Contraption. You will see such divine, such astounding acts of live clothed performication and musicality as you have never seen. Circus Contraption will vibrate your eardrums, stimulate your eyeballs, and titillate your mind like nothing else on this earth. Step right up, don?t be afraid everyone loves a circus, and for those of you afraid of clowns it?s high time you got off your candy asses and faced your fears. Circus Contraption cannot be more accurately described than to say it is the music Michael Patton would compose to be plaid at a circus with Tom Waits as the ring master. The band itself is a solid ensemble musicians synchronously assaulting the audience with a sublime melodious discordia harkening back to the thrill of a childhood trips to the circus mixed with a healthy dose of the sardonic wit of an Edward Gorey story. The whole medley is nicely topped off by the unique vocal stylings of Armatage Shanks (David Grellin) and Pinky d?Ambrosia (Sari Breznau). In truth any description would pale to the actual experience of seeing Circus Contraption live, but you don?t have to take my word for it; see them for yourself on Halloween night at the Capital Hill Art Center (1621 12th ave., door at 8:00pm). For more information check out the Circus Contraption web sight at www.circuscontraption.com I caught the show last night here in georgetown, and wanted to drop you guys a line and let you know how freakin great it was. I am looking forward to the halloween show, and plan on bringing as many people as I can. Loved your show in Victoria BC in July. Want to see a southern tour, Santa Fe, NM, Dallas, TX., etc. Still listening with regularity, better than metamucil. how long has your circus been around and how did it come about? No poetry, just some brief prose....better than prose about briefs..or even a pose in briefs. I was lucky enough to catch your performances in Santa Cruz in the Summers of 2001 and 2002. I did not see you guys this year. Planning to come south any time soon? If not I may just have to come to Seattle to get my Contraption fix. Do you have a cage I could share with a coprophage if I need a place to crash? i wish i could see you perform again. despite the broken buses, un-affordable journeys and current lack of performances scheduled, i dream of some day building you side show contraptions. thanks for being brilliant. xoxo Any chance ya'll will ever tour the East coast? can u give joe albanese my e-mail address or give me his? I attend school at Princeton University, some of my friends and I are interested in starting a non profit organization. Your organization seems fairly new, and somewhat do it yourself (in a good way). Either way, I was hoping that we could talk to someone about the demands of running a non profit organization. Please respond I haven't so much fun since my dog died and the pigs ate my little brother. Truly evolved circus...get outta da way Jim Rose! Great music. Love your music. Picked up "Our Latest Catalogue" at a resale shop last year and have been featuring some of the tracks on my Internet radio station Triad Radio Revisited (http://triadradiorevisited.com). Your sound is unique, exactly what I like to feature on my station, bands with creativity and style. Keep it up and let me know if you ever plan to play in my neck of the woods. Yes, I agree that one! You need a calender. Or if there is one, it is dificult to find.

Monday, July 14, 2003 at 13:30:50 (PDT) caught word of you several summers ago while in Santa Cruz . . .but couldn't make any of your shows. Checked out the website back then - awesome, entertaining. SO - the BIG question is - when are you going out on the road again - oh please, say "This summer" . . a fan from afar! Actually I¥ve been thinking. Are you juggling jugulars coming to Europe someday? will you be playing in my area any time in the near future? I saw you in San Luis Obispo a few years back. You were wonderful. If I was bisexual I would make love to you all. Sam is this the circus that was interviewed on the radio last year before the show at Sand POint..(seattle) If not, do you happen to know another small group of circus people that do cool stuff with fire and juggling that I might be thinking of. maybe it's you but the name COntrption doesn't sound familiar, unless you changed your name. I need to know for a freind of mine who wants to be a part of a fun little cirus ( part time..for fun) He's very acrobatic and smart!! THANKS I hope that someone out there will help me out. I have been searching for a diagram on how to set up a slack rope in my back yard with webbing. I just need to know the kind of knots to use to make it all tight. Anyone have ideas or links to help me. I do not get the opportunity very often to use a computer so I only have so much time for reasearch. Thank you. Greetin's Cretins! I wanted to know if the recent production of Frankenocchio was recorded and if would be available for public consumption. There were a number of friends here that would've loved to have seen it live, however geographical and financial barriers would not allow us. The whole show sounded so exquisitely dark and wonderful, and your music was the perfect accompaniment I'm sure. I hope you are all well. Mayhaps if the stars perfectly align for us again there could be another Circus/Cabaret orgy of music and decadence...yes that would be nice. Peace-n-Aardarks from your friendly Colorado set constructrix/stage managrette, ---Ren P.S.-I don't know if you saw it, but the Denver Post voted the Circus/Cabaret Halloween show one of 2002's best concert events along with the likes of The Who and David Bowie! To read the article, go to Cabaret Diosa's website (cabaretdiosa.com), click on the 'news' section, and there's a link to the Denver Post article. Kudos and kudus to you all! Greetin's Cretins! My cousin convinced me to go see Frankenocchio at the last minute. I was completely stunned by the amazing skill and beauty of the performance. It was hilarious, visually breathtaking, poignant, and wonderful to listen to. I must admit that after the very last line of the performance I was close to tears. I only regret that I discovered it so late in the run, otherwise I would be coming back for seconds and thirds, and dragging all of my friends with me. Thanks for the great experience! I plan on buying your CD, and I hope that you'll come out with more recorded music soon. In particular I enjoyed the quiet piano solos. Gorgeous. Sorry, my e-mail adress is hendrix2mel@yahoo.com Thanks Bye I saw you last night with Frankenochio and I want more. You were great. I hope I'll see you around. Keep me posted. Come back! Washington D.C. Wednesday, November 06, 2002 at 19:57:21 (PST) I applaud Armitage for the lyrics in The Slaughter's Promenade. A zen anarchist obviously didn't think out the line "please consider the feelings of others" in her message, since she has no problem with needless killing. True the type of factory farming our delicious dispenser of sinister poetry (that's you Mr. Shanks) was talking about is the worst of the worst. It isn't like that on every farm, but these methods are becoming more wide spread in America. I found myself almost-shatterd with delight when I discovered the beautiful bizzarrity of Circus Contraption's eerie atmosphere, physical feats, and mind-bending numbers like "Eggtooth", and the fact that you guys are also brave and sassy enough to bring up an important issue like this just rocks my world! There is nothing I find more delightful than frolicking to the sounds of "Our Latest Catalogue." Oh baby don't let the jiggery-pokery ever end! please come to wisconsin or minneapolis or chicago, i gaurantee we won't miss it! Oh Boo! It looks as if NW Washington's loss is Colorado's gain!! I was just looking to see where you will be for the All Hallows Eve and was aghast to discover you won't be performing for the local spooks and goblins.....BUT congratulations nonetheless.....it sounds like a great time for all!! So, do you clows have any suggestions for a possible substitute? Now my friends and I will be all dressed up but at a loss as where to go. Yous guys make me laugh my ass off and now I want it back! Give it back you fuck-o's! I know you stole my ass and I'm gonna find you! Hey. I was just checking to see if Cabaret Diosa was going to be in NC anytime soon and saw that they are playing a show with you guys somewhere far away. Do you ever play up here in NC? I haven't seen or heard you guys but you look pretty interesting. Please let me know if you will ever be playing in or around Asheville. Thanks to you all for the wonderful visit and magnificent show. We really enjoyed your company, and I know you all really enjoyed the five star accomodations. If you're ever back in Iowa, especially to perform for those Wild Nuts in Fairfield, know that our hovel is your hovel. Saw you guys in Catalina. Loved the show. It was like being on mushrooms eventhough we were close to being sober. You Rock!!!!!!!!! Keep it up and thank you sooooooooooo much. You made the day extra special. PLEASE PLEASE come to WA state!! i missed your last performance, and i am dying to see you guys. My co-workers went and they LOVED IT!!! please!! just one little stop next to OR!! thanks in advance! Great performers are what makes life worth living....sadistic clowns with attitude are even better. Thank you so much for your performance at Henflings in Ben Lomand it was outstanding. I hope to see you next year or sooner, You are all amazing! Thank you for the Waltz Armitage! -Cori Kipps A clown groupie for life Just saw the circus at Cellspace and >sigh<, ahm in luuuuv. Especially with the lovely trumpet playing songstress, and all the musicians and trapeeze people and jugglers (is that the Colin who got his nipple repeatedly and unsuccessfully pierced at the Asylum in Prague ca. 1992?) and dancers, and ... I guess that covers it. Hey all, Just wanted to say thank you for all the hard work you guys did at Performing Arts Camp. You Rock! I have gotten nothing but rave reviews from all the parents here in town. The kids themselves had an amazing week because of ya'll! Thank You again and see you in August! Are ya'll really playing the knitting factory in Lost Angeles? A WHOLE bunch of us folks want to go! Rock on Homeskillet, Liza Mae OHMIGAWD!!! You're gonna play in Madison! That's so damn cool I just can't believe it can't wait oh boy holy canoli oh boy.... ahem. I'm just sitting here in Kuala Lumpur, rueing the fact that I'll be missing High Sierra for the first time in 11 years, and missing you cats there for the first time in two years, and in my idle web pokings I discover that you'll be where I'll be come late august!! I'm just thrilled to bits. I'll be in Madison by about Aug. 15, and I'm fairly connected in certain University and Housing Co-op circles. If there is anything I can do to help youse guys (posting flyers, general rabble rousing), do holler. Cool beans! --Corrin Rausenberger-Pitluck crausenberger@education.wisc.edu Beratings and Prominent Indignations to all!!! I have finally procured a copy of your (mostly) entertaining and webbed toe-tapping CD. I must say it brought back fond memories of a winter past spent at a strange cabaret in an old Navy warehouse.... But I digress....I could go on with the usual praise and smarmy sentiments but I won't because my real reason is the BEEF I have with your song The Slaughter's Promenade. As a meat-lover and former farm girl I take great personal offense at the lyric content of this thoroughly ignorant tune. When I read the words from the courteous liner notes (thank you!!) to my father over the phone...well, he cried, then said softly "They just don't understand. Darlin', you know we never cut off their legs when they're alive. Cattle Ranching is an AMERICAN tradition and many fine PATRIOTIC men and women are in the MEAT-CUTTER'S union. Please consider the feelings of others when you write songs in the future. Although I don't want to....if these kind of uninformed negative waves continue I will be forced to put you on the TEXAS CATTLEMEN'S ASSOCIATION mailing list. I hope y'all understand...... I just wanted to publicly congratulate you all on a wonderful run of Gallimaufry. I don't know that I've ever enjoyed working with a group of people as much as I enjoyed working with all of you. I carry you each around with me in a special place in my heart, and miss the circus terribly. May your future endeavors be all the more successful, and thank you so much for including me in this one. It changed my life. Hi, I just saw the wonderful show "Barnum" at Blanchett High School and want to thank you for the training and support you gave the young people there to prepare for this wonderful production. Meantime, I coordinate the Healing Music Project at Seattle Cancer Care Alliance which is an alliance between University of Washington Medical Center, Children's Hospital & Regional Medical Center and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. During the summer months I book groups to work with the kids attending The Hutch School Summer Camp. I am wondering if a field trip to your facility might be workable or if it would be best to come to the school and teach the kids a few circus stunts. This would be on a volunteer basis only, but it would pay you back in many heartwarming ways. These kids are here with family member who is going through cancer therapy, so they are displaced from their normal surroundings for several months. Please let me know if there is an interest. I will be scheduling events for the summer camp and will need your reply by May 20. Thanks. Linda Allen, M.Mus., Coordinator Healing Music Project Seattle Cancer Care Alliance 825 Eastlake Ave E. Seattle WA 98109-1023 (206) 288-2192 On advice from friends I went to the show on 4/5. Without the slightest conception of what to expect, I was delighted with the most refreshing, genuine, wonderful performance I've seen. I'm spreading the word and looking forward to seeing you again. Thanks. My one critic was the acoutics/sound system in that venue. Often hard to understand what you were saying/singing. tra-la! The show last night was lovely. It has my husband and I drooling over Circus Arts classes in SF... Your cd has been on repeat all morning! Why doesn't Sari Breznau have a bio? How true is the rumor that she sings or teaches classes at a church organization for battered and displaced women? Her vocals on "Coming Attraction" set the wheels in motion for the most surreal experience I had in all of 2001. Sam-SLO so...are you ever going to do a show in olympia? we need a circus...busses only break down once a century

North Seattle Saturday, January 26, 2002 at 21:31:16 (PST) Your web site is looking good. You guys are doing great. You have come a long way. I have been wanting to get involed so perhaps next month Thanks Donna On your Souvenirs page, your posters cover your type, or is that your plan? I don't know, but Avalon hopes you will come back this summer if you head this way on tour. The Avalon kids loved you, the older audiences loved you, and the middle of the roaders loved you. You were loved! Come back, come back, come back. feed back! To Whom It May Concern, My name (Craft name, not legal) is Erin Greystar, and I am a Wiccan. I wanted to let you know that I heard a song of yours called something like "We're roasting a Witch on a spit", and all other kinds of various obscenities about the Craft. If you don't know, Wicca is the ancient pre-Christian religion of the Celtics, and the Inquistion destroyed many wisewomen and cunning men of great power and knowledge, which forced the Craft to go into hiding until now. Songs like this one only enforce the stereotype of the "wicked witch" instead of the wise, sensual, nature-loving people that REAL Wiccans are. While I believe in the Wiccan Rede "an it harm none", I may be forced to cast a binding spell on the negative energies that this song may create and filter them back to the Earth Mother for recycling. PLEASE DON'T MAKE ME USE MY POWER. Please be a little more sensitive to people's feelings in your songs. Blessed Be, Erin Greystar You must, must, must come to Telluride! This town needs your inspiration and quickiness. We love nutters and have lots of fun messin around here. Great place to play! You all have the most incredible show put together......I saw it for the first time and was absolutely blown away. Hat`s off to you all. I`d love to come and work for you sometime..Pete I first saw you guys at the country fair (in Eugene, OR) and loved you guys (mostly the bunny drummer), but you guys gotta play somewhere else than Dante's when you come up here!
